CODE OF ETHICS
As a member of Twin Cities Professional Nannies, I will strive to adhere to the following ethics:

To practice and encourage professionalism, honesty, and confidentiality in myself and others.

To foster a spirit of trust, respect, and cooperation among members, families, and other individuals in the industry.

To improve public perception of the nanny profession through involvement in the community, my industry, and this association.

To continue the ongoing process of professional development by improving my skills and knowledge through education, research, and networking.

To promote the development of children in all ways including physical, intellectual, and social, through age-appropriate activities.

To create an environment that fosters trust, self-esteem, and independence in children.

Guidelines
Twin Cities Professional NanniesSM (TCPN) is a group created and run entirely by nannies for the purpose of supporting fellow nannies in every way. A group such as this can be very beneficial for nannies who often feel isolated in a working environment that lacks the coworkers and colleagues that are readily available in most other jobs. When the lack of industry standards or a labor union is factored in, the need for a professional organization like TCPN is even clearer.

TCPN unites local nannies that serve as resources to each other in times of need. While nannies are encouraged to confront the source of problems directly and assertively, it is also understood that we often need the support and advice of peers. Therefore, nannies are encouraged to ask questions and seek advice from fellow TCPN members. This includes getting help with work-related issues and requesting referrals to job placement services.

Because of the networking opportunities group membership provides, nannies will certainly make friends and gather outside the realm of TCPN events. Obviously, what is said and done there is at your discretion. However, in order to build and maintain a reputation as a respected and professional organization, it is necessary to establish a few basic guidelines or codes of conduct to be followed at all TCPN group functions. These guidelines are as follows:

Confidentiality
In the process of discussing work related issues, some of what is said could cause trouble or embarrassment for the employer or other person being discussed. When referring to employers, show discretion and protect their privacy by not giving their names or other identifying information such as their job title or workplace. In addition, do not talk outside the meeting about what is said, unless it is among yourselves and strictly in private.

Respect
All members will be welcomed and treated respectfully at TCPN events. While we encourage everyone to volunteer their time and talents, no one will be forced to attend group functions regularly or serve on committees. Differences of opinion must be tolerated, and everyone is expected to work together to keep harmony among the group. If individuals strongly disagree on issues or dislike each other, they must refrain from personal attacks or gossiping during TCPN events.

All others may join under either a Business or an Individual membership. Some events will be open to Business and Individual members, or to the general public. Members will receive event announcements. The announcements will specify which members are eligible to participate in the event.

Remember, all TCPN members are expected to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to all conversations and information shared at TCPN meetings and events. For example, members who own or are employed by nanny agencies are not allowed to recruit nannies or solicit business in any way at any TCPN event, or by using any TCPN materials. Violations of this policy are grounds for expulsion from membership to TCPN.

As a benefit of membership, members of all types will receive a Nanny Resource Guide.

Commercial use of any of the contents of the TCPN Nanny Resource Guide or distribution to non-TCPN members is strictly prohibited. Violations of this policy are grounds for expulsion from membership to TCPN.
